    girl! You’re taking me back to those sweet swaddling days with my kiddos. They are 5 and 4 now! My husband and I are both completely blind, so I totally get why you’re loving those velcro swaddles! I can try to break down the classic swaddle for you like the hospital taught us, just in case you ever want to give it a try! Imagine this: You’ve got a soft, cozy blanket-let’s say it’s a cute pink one-laid out in front of you like a diamond. Start by folding down the corner that’s farthest from you, about a quarter of the way, so it’s pointing right at you. That top edge is nice and straight! Now, gently lay your little one right on that blanket, with the folded part snug under the top of her neck. Next up, grab the bottom corner-the one closest to you-and fold it up over those adorable little legs. Just leave a bit of room for those tiny kicks! Now, make sure her right arm is tucked in snug against her side. Take that right corner of the blanket and fold it over her body, making sure to tuck it over her left arm too, which should also be cozily tucked in. Finally, grab the left corner and wrap it around her body, covering the right side you just tucked in. Give it a nice snug tuck under her back, and BAM! You’ve got yourself a perfectly swaddled baby! Hopefully that all makes sense lol. Keep rocking this mom thing! 💖

    I went blind a few years ago, but due to my living situation at the time I wasn't able to take advantage of Rehabilitation until recently. I recently got in touch with my local Bureau of services for blind persons, and they sent me a braille card with the alphabet on it in the mail. And this video makes it easier to follow the cells on the card. Thank you very much.

    Even though I’m sighted, I had a similar experience as you when they put my girl on my chest. I mostly remember the ‘fishy’ feeling. 😅 I needed MONTHS to be able to bond with her. And since we know her exact condition, I was able to close that chapter of my life and now we are best buddies. ❤

    Amen 🩷 Amen 🩷 Amen 💞 Love you and love this video! Thank you for normalizing the difficulty in bonding after baby is born. Thank you for sharing the good and the bad. Thank you for speaking on so many aspects of childbirth. Unfortunately, I didn’t do enough research and was very blindsided. No pun intended, by a lot that happened to me. Awesome suggestions to really know and trust your OB and to hire a Doula if possible. Even with the greatest of husbands, it is hard for them to be husband, father to be, and advocate at the same time. If we are blessed with another, I will definitely have a Doula and make sure my OB is much more trustworthy. You spoke on so many great points! Thank you again for sharing your story! 🩷 Looking forward to future episodes! You are amazing momma!

  • @cave_hag

    I definitely relate to all of this. Especially about taking photos. Not only just being blind. My eyes also face different directions. So I hear what are you looking at quite a bit. But the part about conversations is so true and sometimes I just kind of feel like why even bother. Especially at like family get togethers. They all love to move the conversations to different rooms or outside. So I'm just like guess I'll just quietly sit here.

    So I don't even know where to start. I did bot hace support fron other blind or l9w vision people growing up. I was trying to fit in with everyone. And when it can to performing tasks. I figured shit out. But socially. Like I knew it was bad. But I only found out a year ago just how excluded I was from things in high school. Internalizing. Absolutely. Because I have never had a woman reject me for sondkbe else with Amy kind of disability. Much less a vision one. The new bd might snack her around. But he can drive. Standards. Intellectually, I know there are more variables at play. I'm insecure, for example. But that's because of my vision. And rejected. Other thabggaf. Like I know k z a good man. In terms quality and moral JFT. I do love ngzslf. I just believe no one else does. And everyone kicks the can. Oh the rughf lddzl. Not me, never me, will come aming. I wabfk ve positive. But I ddlng want to lose I need help. The love of my life pulled away from me. After manjbg me feel line I aas lived for who j ass fo first go w. And when sge did. I got really insecure. And hegged. And idk how to fix it. Please help. Email

    So I'm not visually impaired (beyond what glasses can correct), however, my mum & I are both somewhat face-blind (her more strongly than me), & rely heavily on context to place people. Totally feel you on the "how do I ask who you are, when you clearly know me, without seeming rude" when people randomly approach us! (I usually just go the overly-polite British route, have the conversation, & try & figure out who they are during/after! My mum usually says something like: "I'm sorry, but I'm really bad with names/faces, can you remind me". Most people are happy to do so, but it doesn't really stop it feeling embarassing, awkward & frustrating.) I have an awkward-funny story of one time I thought I was the one being face-blind, but it was actually the other person's mistake: So one time at church a lady came up to me & started talking. I didn't have a clue who she was - worse than usual - but she seemed so certain she knew me, that I just talked to her. I realised afterwards (thanks to a comment she made about my glasses) that I'm 99% sure she mistook me for my sister (we look fairly similar, & at the time people kept mistaking us for twins). I never saw her again after, so I've no idea how she felt about it, but I felt incredibly awkward the whole time for "not recognising her"!

    • @CaylawithaC
      @CaylawithaC Месяц назад

      That’s funny because I have experienced a similar situation a lot. Me and my sister look similar in often times people have approached me thinking they knew me when actually it turned out they thought I was my sister

As a fellow blind woman, i’m interested in learning how you handle bathing and diaper changes. What about dressing your baby?
